Is black appropriate for a wedding?

Such a fabulous couple. They were looking pretty regal themselves, David in Ralph Lauren and a top hat which he couldn't wear during the service.

My friends and I were arguing just last night whether black was an appropriate colour for a wedding and pregnant Victoria shows up in a navy blue Victoria Beckham dress. What do you think?
