Glitz Africa magazine launched at the Golden Tulip hotel in Accra last weekend. The focus was on the lovely ladies who stepped out for the event. They were captured by ReneeQ Red Carpet Diaries and featured on the ReneeQ blog. I picked some of the ladies who were looking good from their hair down to their feet. Yvonne Nelson was definitely the best dressed! It could be that she had an edge since she owns a line of wig and hair collection but her classic LBD and Louboutin daffodil pumps made her a winner anyway.

Feast your eyes on the superb Dawn collection by N'kya designs. There's something for everyone in this collection from candy-coloured African print fabrics and lace trimmings to pleats and gathers. I especially love the shocking pink chiffon top. You'll be walking as proud as a peacock in any of these!

N'kya designs is a fashion brand that was created in 2007. Based in London, the designs have always been made with materials sourced from Ghana. Having already had success in the UK, the brand has moved it's base to Africa and officially launched in Accra on Sunday 11th December, 2011.
The event was a private showing which took place at the Obuasi Suite of the Labadi Beach Hotel. Two collections were showcased - Bedazzled and Dawn. Bedazzled is an existing collection which has been brought over from London and updated to fit the new surroundings. It will feature bold reds, blues and yellows as well as embellishments for maximum impact. Dawn is an entirely new collection, symbolizing a new phase or rebirth of N’kya Designs. Lace detailing is key to most pieces as well as the signature combination of wax print fabrics with other textures.
There was a poetry reading to start the show off which was later followed by a live performance by Songstress Bertha whiles the models sauntered down the catwalk wearing pieces from the Dawn collection. Selected pieces from both collections were auctioned off with the highest bid of the night 1000 Ghana Cedis on a chiffon top and African wax print skirt with lace ruffles down the center. There was also the sale of 4 dresses by an anonymous guest of the event and these were given to four lucky ladies that graced the stage to dance Azonto (a new ghanaian dance).
The event was sponsored by Orient Express Enterprise, Vidal Enterprise and FashionMist.
Sheila Boateng is the designer and businesswoman behind N’kya Designs.

I captured this dress on the catwalk of Arise Magazine Fashion Week in Lagos last year, modeled by the gorgeous Tanzanian model, Millen Magese. One of the best shots I took cause I got to seat front row for that show. Kendra truly looks divine in this dress, what a great pick!

Sunshine all year round! That's why Africans appreciate summer trends. When you live in this part of he world, you hardly have need for knitwear and cover-ups. That time of the year is almost here again with designers and stores dishing out sneak peeks to their spring/summer collection.
The lookbook for the latest Mango collection reveals denim, pleats, maxi-skirts and blazers with neutral and pastel shades, especially pale pink and yellow. Mango has had a lot of publicity in Nigeria since its store opening. Model Anna Selezneva features in this lookbook.
